Why I’m a little mad at the NRA.

“The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations,” said Wayne LaPierre, the NRA’s CEO, and Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action, in a joint statement.

That was the statement made by the NRA after the Las Vegas shooting.  Seems innocent enough on it’s own, except for the FACT that the anti-2Aers have been trying to wedge in any and all gun restrictions for decades.  Did Wayne LaPierre really believe the antis wouldn’t leap on this like a fat kid on cake?  Did all of the NRA spokespersons really support this statement or are they now collectively playing damage control?

Frankly, I think the NRA should have remained silent on the issue.  They had no real dog in the fight at first but should have known that anti-2A pushes by various groups were already in draft mode.  Now they seem to be waffling on the very issue they are in existence to protect.

Oh, I know all the arguments; “they wanted to preempt a new gun law by shoving it to the ATF”, “they wanted to appear to be proactive on this issue that doesn’t really have anything to do with 2A”, and variations of the same.  We, NRA, how’d that work out for you??  Not so well it appears.  The anti-2Aers saw an opening and now have a bi-partisan bill that is so vague it could derail years and years of fighting for 2A rights, especially in anti-2A states like CA and NY.

What were you guys thinking??  Did you not calculate the pros and cons of this position you so arrogantly took?  Did your teams of lawyers NOT look at any and all potential feedbacks from your public statement?  Maybe you need to drain a swamp of your own!!

I follow a lot of gun guys on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and other media.  Almost all of them, except for the paid NRA spokespersons, were stunned at the NRA when they issued the statement above.  Almost all of them were disappointed in the seemingly weak stand the NRA took on this.  And almost all predicted exactly what is happening now.  So why, NRA, did this totally escape you?

I’m a lifetime endowment member of the NRA and still support them for the years of good they have done on Pro-2A legislation.  But this really shakes me.  On top of that, I get a call the day after they released the statement asking for a donation.  I just laughed at the lady and hung up the phone.  You’ve got to be kidding me!!

Maybe it’s time for new leadership in the NRA.  Maybe the current leaders have become too comfortable with their winning streak and are not quite as vigilant as they need to be.  I’m not sure.  But what I do know is that this awful position the NRA is currently in could be seen coming from 10,000 miles away by just about everyone EXCEPT the NRA leadership.
